KADUNA, NIGERIA — Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has stated that government alone cannot sustainably finance education, stressing the need for stronger collaboration between public institutions, private stakeholders, and development partners to improve the sector.
The governor made the remarks while addressing stakeholders on education development in the state, where he highlighted the growing financial demands required to maintain and expand access to quality learning across all levels.
Uba Sani noted that education remains a shared responsibility, arguing that no government, regardless of resources, can single-handedly meet the infrastructure, staffing, and funding needs of a modern education system.
He called for increased participation from private sector actors, philanthropists, alumni associations, and international development organisations to complement government efforts in strengthening schools and expanding opportunities for students.
According to him, Kaduna State has continued to prioritise education as a key pillar of its human capital development agenda, with ongoing investments in school rehabilitation, teacher training, and scholarship support for students.
The governor also pointed to the rising cost of educational delivery, including infrastructure development, learning materials, and technology integration, as factors that make broader partnerships necessary for sustained progress.
He emphasised that collaborative funding models would help reduce pressure on government budgets while ensuring that more students have access to quality and affordable education.
Education stakeholders at the meeting reportedly supported the governor’s position, noting that partnerships between government and non-state actors have proven effective in improving learning outcomes in several regions.
They also encouraged the state to continue expanding initiatives such as scholarships, student loan schemes, and community-driven education projects to ensure inclusivity and equal opportunity for learners.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, stating that long-term development depends heavily on a well-educated and skilled population.
He further urged stakeholders to view education as an investment in the future of the state and the country, rather than a burden solely dependent on government funding.
As discussions continue, the Kaduna State Government says it will deepen engagement with partners to build a more sustainable and inclusive education system capable of meeting the needs of its growing population.
