Organisation of Women in International Trade (OWIT) Nigeria, says it will support the newly appointed Director-General, World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to increase women’s participation in international trade.
Mrs. Blessing Irabor, the President, OWIT Nigeria, made the pledge in a congratulatory message to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Benin
Irabor said Okonjo-Iweala represented one of the finest and brightest Nigerian women in the world, whose unprecedented achievements had made her to lead in the global trade arena.
She said OWIT looked forward to working closely with the new D-G in supporting the prosperity of the Nigerian economy through women’s involvement in trade.
“Trade is one of the most powerful drivers of growth, supporting billions of people to escape from poverty traps and contributing to prosperity worldwide.
“In this regard, OWIT Nigeria remains a staunch contributor to effective positioning of Nigerian women’s participation in regional and international trade.
“We will do our utmost to support you in this historic mandate, especially as we are provided with the enabling opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
“It is our belief and prayers that your tenure will be successful and be of immense impact in the global community and the African trade space in particular,” she said. (NAN)
