Gunman Killed After Security Breach at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Estate

An armed man was shot and killed early Sunday after unlawfully entering the secure perimeter surrounding Mar-a-Lago, the Florida residence of Donald Trump, according to the United States Secret Service.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. when a white male in his early 20s breached the restricted area. At the time, Trump and the first lady were in Washington, D.C..

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw told reporters that the suspect appeared to be carrying a shotgun and a fuel can when he entered the property. A deputy and two Secret Service agents confronted him and ordered him to drop the items.

The man reportedly dropped the fuel can but raised the shotgun into a firing position, prompting officers to open fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No law enforcement personnel were injured during the encounter. Officials confirmed that the officers involved were wearing body cameras.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation and is working to determine the suspect’s identity and motive. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Authorities have urged residents in the surrounding area to review exterior security footage and report any suspicious activity.

In line with agency policy, the Secret Service agents involved have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
