Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Aribibia Fubara, a director with the Rivers State Board of Internal Revenue Service in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The incident reportedly occurred when the assailants, numbering six, arrived at the Marine Base area through the Okirika Waterfront in a speedboat.
According to media reports, the gunmen executed the abduction in a commando style, firing shots indiscriminately into the air to create tension.
Upon reaching their target, they immediately whisked Fubara into their boat and sped off, leaving the scene in disarray.
As of Monday, the kidnappers had not made any contact with Fubara’s family, and their motives remain unclear.
Meanwhile, Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident and assured the public that an investigation is already underway.
She said, “Yes, the command is aware of the incident. The Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of all tactical units and alerted all area commanders to ensure he is rescued unhurt.”
She further stressed that the police are committed to apprehending the suspects and bringing them to justice, as directed by the Commissioner of Police.
The situation remains tensed as authorities continue their search for the abducted director.
