Unknown gunmen kill police officers

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have ambushed and killed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) attached to the Agbarho police division in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The DPO, who was newly posted to the division, was shot in the stomach and died on the spot.

Another officer, the DPO of Orerokpe division, was injured in the ambush and is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) is also missing after the incident.

The police have deployed tactical teams to track the suspected kidnappers the same day being Monday 14, October 2024.

The Police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed the killing in Asaba on October 14, 2024.

The Orerokpe DPO was identified as CSP Paul.

Police sources said his chances of surviving the gunshots are not very promising.

Edafe recalled how the police teams were ambushed in the early morning on the fateful day and fired upon them.

The attack led to the death of the Agharho Police Division DPO.

The other police officer escaped with injuries on his stomach and part of the bodies.

Meanwhile, the whereabouts of the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) remains unknown after the gun battle.

The trouble had started when police officers responded to a distress calls at about 1:30 am on Monday.

According to the caller, some people had been kidnapped after their vehicle got trapped at Agbarho railway station.

The new DPO contacted his Orerokpe counterpart, and they mobilised to the area.

The kidnappers, meanwhile, ambushed and fired at them, killing the Agharho DPO as well as other officers.

The Orerokpe officer was equally seriously wounded and rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

According to Edafe, the Agharho DPO just resumed duty a fortnight earlier before the incident.

Borno Police mourn DPO killed by ISWAP in Borno

The Borno State Police Command has announced the mourning of slain Divisional Police Officer, SP Pius Sunday.

SP Sunday was killed by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists while responding to a distress call at his duty post in New Marte, Marte local government area of the state.

The Command’s Spokesman, ASP Nahum Daso said the incident occurred on May 20, 2024, at about 9:09 PM.

The DPO of Marte Division had received a complaint from one Adam Abatcha, a Senior Community Health Extension Worker (SCHEW) in charge of Maternal and Child Health Clinic, New Marte.

Abatcha cried that some unknown gunmen numbering about six invaded his house and attempted to abduct him.

He told police officers that he struggled and escaped from his abductors before running to the police station.

The DPO mobilised his men to the scene.

Unfortunately, the team was ambushed and the DPO was fatally wounded.

One Sani Murtala was hit by a bullet on his thigh and received treatment at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

The corpse of the DPO was later deposited at the UMTH mortuary, the police spokesman said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, on his part, expressed heartfelt condolence to the family of the bereaved.
