DDM News
Tragedy struck in Lile Village, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, as armed men suspected to be kidnappers killed a local leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abdullahi Kpotun.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Kpotun, who served as the PDP ward chairman for Kwara North, was murdered alongside his son on Tuesday, June 24, in a violent attack that has thrown the region into mourning.
According to the PDP’s publicity secretary in the state, Shola Adewara, the two were killed during what appeared to be a failed abduction attempt by unknown gunmen.
Adewara confirmed the deaths to the press, stating, “Yes, Alhaji Kpotun was killed by suspected gunmen. We are in a mourning mood.”
The incident has sparked outrage and grief within the local political community and across Kwara State.
In a separate statement, the Kwara Central Strategy Team (KCST) expressed deep sorrow over the killings, condemning the attackers as “ruthless bandits.”
Olayinka Oladimeji, President of KCST, released a statement saying, “With heavy hearts, the Kwara Central Strategy Team mourns the tragic killing of the Kwara North PDP Ward Chairman and his son in Patigi.”
He declared the attack as an assault on peace and security in the state and emphasized unity among the people of Baruten, Kaiama, Edu, Moro, and Patigi.
“We pray for the souls of our fallen comrades,” the KCST leader added.
“May their sacrifices not be in vain. We declare safety, divine guidance, and victory over fear. Kwara North shall rise again!”
The killing of Kpotun and his son adds to the rising insecurity across rural parts of Nigeria where banditry and kidnappings have become rampant.
Locals are calling for immediate government intervention and improved security presence in vulnerable communities.
As of press time, no arrest has been made and the identities of the attackers remain unknown.
The Kwara State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Meanwhile, residents remain fearful as violence continues to disrupt lives and political activities in parts of the state.
