There were some moments of tension when gunmen suspected to be political thugs, stormed the venue of a rally organised by loyalists of Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), in Bayelsa state.
The political rally was organized by the NEW Associates.
The event, led by George Turnah, a key figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa, was already underway when the sudden bursts of gunfire sent panic through the crowd.
But security operatives immediately moved to restore order, and normal activities resumed shortly after the disturbance.
While speaking to newsmen following the incident, Comrade Ebilade Ekerefe, Secretary of NEW Associates in the state, affirmed that the rally would continue as planned.
Supporters later regrouped to push on with the event.
