(DDM) — Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, on Friday, 28 November 2025, returned to Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, to donate learning materials to the Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy.

The visit was part of a nostalgic homecoming with members of the 2005 Religious Studies graduating class, who accompanied Guwor to the university two decades after completing their studies.

DDM notes that the delegation brought a wide range of contributions including books, teaching aids, digital learning tools, and a public-address system aimed at enhancing the department’s educational resources.

Upon arrival, the alumni were received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Asagba, along with other senior university officials, who guided them around the department’s aging lecture facilities and highlighted areas requiring urgent upgrades.

Guwor expressed profound gratitude to God for the opportunity to give back to their alma mater, noting that DELSU had played a pivotal role in shaping their academic and professional journeys.

He said the initiative represents a token of appreciation for their educational foundation and aligns with Delta State’s broader vision of promoting quality education, community development, and intellectual growth.

The university leadership further highlighted the importance of alumni engagement in bridging resource gaps and supporting infrastructural development within the institution.

The visit provided an opportunity for emotional interactions between the alumni and their former lecturers, allowing them to reminisce about past academic experiences and share insights with current students.

Group photographs captured the memorable occasion, symbolizing the lasting bond between DELSU and its graduates while reinforcing the spirit of giving back to the academic community.

Education analysts note that such alumni-led initiatives are critical in Nigerian higher education, particularly in public universities where funding challenges often impede the provision of up-to-date learning materials and infrastructure.
