Hawaii: Doctor arrested for attempted murder of wife during hike trip

A 46-year-old doctor, Gerhardt Konig, has been arrested for allegedly attempting kill his wife while hiking in Oahu, Hawaii, on Monday March 24, 2025.

The Honolulu Police Department said Konig, an anesthesiologist, was hiking with his wife near Pali Lookout on Monday morning.

The suspect allegedly tried to push her wife Arielle Konig off the trail and struck her head with a rock.

The Police Honolulu Emergency Services Department treated the 36-year-old woman for serious injuries.

Ariell is said to have suffered a severe head and facial wounds and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Her current condition remains unknown, as police have not provided any further updates.

Investigators said Konig fled the scene after the attack but was arrested near Pali Highway.

Officers caught him after a brief foot pursuit.

The motive for the alleged attack has not been disclosed by the police.

Authorities are still gathering evidence to determine what led to the incident.

Residents in the area expressed shock over the attack, describing it as disturbing and unusual.

Some hikers at Pali Lookout said the area is generally safe.

“This is terrifying. I hike here often, and I never imagined something like this could happen,” a hiker said.

Police have not revealed if there was a history of domestic violence between the couple.

Investigators are looking into Konig’s background for any prior incidents.

The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office declined to comment, stating that the case is under investigation.

Charges against Konig are still pending.

Legal experts say he could face serious charges, including attempted murder and assault.

If convicted, konig, may receive a lengthy prison sentence.
