The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Dr. Tunji-Ojo, the public holidays are intended to allow Muslims to celebrate the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

He congratulated the Muslim Ummah and encouraged them to uphold the virtues of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace cultivated during Ramadan.

The Minister also urged Nigerians to use the festive period for prayers, unity, and acts of generosity to promote national peace and stability.

He expressed hope that the joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr would serve as a catalyst for unity and cooperation, bridging divides across religious and ethnic lines.

Additionally, Dr. Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly, while remembering the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity.

He extended heartfelt Eid Mubarak wishes to all Muslim faithful and prayed that the blessings of the season would bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to everyone.

In a statement released to the press on Wednesday, Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity as key elements in fostering a harmonious society.

He encouraged Nigerians to use the holiday period for reflection, prayer, and acts of charity.

The Federal Government’s declaration of public holidays for Eid-el-Fitr is in line with the country’s tradition of recognizing and celebrating major religious festivals.

The government’s decision is expected to enable Muslims to observe the Eid-el-Fitr prayers and celebrations without any hindrance.

It’s worth noting that the Eid-el-Fitr celebration marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting.

Muslims around the world observe a month-long fast during Ramadan, abstaining from food and drink from dawn to sunset.

The Eid-el-Fitr celebration is a significant event in the Islamic calendar, and it’s a time for Muslims to come together with family and friends to share meals, exchange gifts, and engage in acts of charity.
