Veteran Nigerian comedian Ali Baba has shared a story about an unnamed top Nigerian musician, using the artiste’s experience to highlight the importance of financial planning and investing wisely.

According to Ali Baba, the musician received hundreds of millions of naira from performances but allegedly spent a significant portion of the money on luxury items and an expensive lifestyle.

Ali Baba claimed that the artiste was paid ₦400 million for a show in Dubai and another ₦500 million for a separate event.

However, rather than putting a substantial portion of the earnings into investments, the musician allegedly purchased a Maybach, another luxury vehicle and expensive jewellery.

“He spent ₦1.5 billion on lifestyle in two years,” Ali Baba reportedly said.

The comedian explained that he had advised the musician to invest in property and build an event centre that could also house a music studio.

According to Ali Baba, the plan would have given the artiste a long-term source of income beyond music performances.

He claimed that the musician did not take the advice.

The situation reportedly became particularly striking when the artiste eventually decided to get married.

Ali Baba said that despite the huge sums the musician had reportedly earned and spent, he eventually had to rent a hall for his wedding.

The story has sparked conversations about wealth management among Nigerian entertainers, many of whom can earn substantial amounts during periods of career success but may face financial difficulties if their income is not properly managed.

Ali Baba’s comments also highlight the difference between spending money on depreciating luxury items and investing in assets capable of generating income over time.

The comedian did not reveal the identity of the musician involved, leaving social media users speculating about who he could have been referring to.

However, the story was presented as a cautionary tale rather than an accusation against any particular artiste.

Ali Baba’s broader message is that earning huge sums of money does not necessarily translate into lasting wealth if the money is not channelled into productive investments.

The anecdote has therefore reignited discussions about financial discipline, property investment and the importance of planning for life beyond an entertainment career.
