Two police operatives attached to Osun State Police command have been crushed to death by a hit-and-run driver along Osogbo/Gbongan Road in the Oogi area of the State.
The victims have been identified as Kehinde and Tobi.
Abiodun Ojelabi, the spokesman of the command confirmed the unfortunate incident on Thursday, stating that the officers were riding on a motorcycle when a Lexus vehicle crashed into them on Wednesday.
He said the driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped immediately after the crash.
“The two police operatives were travelling on a motorcycle when they got hit. One Lexus car hit them. Kehinde and Tobi are the two operatives involved,” Ojelabi said.
He noted that the command had commenced efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect, adding that the vehicles involved in the accident had been recovered.
“We have launched probe into the accident, and we are tracking the driver of the car. The vehicle and motorcycle involved have been recovered and taken to station,” he stated.
Ojelabi also disclosed that one of the deceased officers had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
The police image maker further stated that investigations into the cause and circumstances surrounding the crash were ongoing.
“We have commenced an investigation into the accident,” he added.
