Veteran Nigerian comedian, Alibaba Akpobome recounts how he was almost arrested by the Department of State Security (DSS) at an event where he made the former head of state, Sani Abacha, laugh.
He revealed that an event that featured a cultural dance troupe had been organized for the president.
While the dance had already started, he noticed that Abacha wasn’t putting on his dark glasses, and the day was already getting dark.
Alibaba revealed that at that point, he told the dancers to stop, and then addressed the president.
He stated that he had told Abacha that the day was already getting dark and the dance event was organized for him, thus wondering how he could see through the dark shades.
At this point, the head of state pulled off the glasses, kept aside and grinned.
Alibaba revealed that when he once again asked the dancers to commence their dance, he noticed that the DSS agents were moving towards the backstage to wait for him.
Rather than go to the backstage, he revealed that he had gone and sat down in front of Abacha who jokingly remarked on his evading the DSS operatives.
“As soon as I made the announcement, I saw DSS boys going to the backstage. When I saw this I went to where Abacha was and sat down on the ground in front of him,” he said in part.
