Available documents show how ex-EFCC chairman, Lamorde defied order from President Jonathan and appointed Usani instead of Akomaye as DG NFIU.
Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan

Elombah.com is in possession of documents showing how the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC], Mr Ibrahim Lamorde defied the order from the then president, Mr Goodluck Jonathan and appointed a man of his choice.

The said appointment was centered on who will lead the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Units (NFIU) which was meant to be separated from EFCC as an autonomous entity.

The documents were provided by the Nigeria’s foremost whistleblowers and Chairman, George Uboh Whistleblowers Network, Dr. George Uboh

According to the documents, the then EFCC boss, Mr Lamorde had written the Attorney-General of the Federation [AGF], Mohammed Bello Adoke, seeking the appointment of Mr Francis Usani as acting chairman of NFIU.

Adoke, for reasons best known to him, wrote President Jonathan and mischievously requested the approval of Mr Emmanuel Akomaye as the NFIU DG.

The president, on April 14, 2014, gave approval for the appointment of Akomaye as DG NFIU.

However, the EFCC called the bluff on both AGF Adoke and President Jonathan and instead appointed Usani as NFIU DG, a position he still holds today.

Other questions begging for answers are:

1. Why did Lamorde, first and foremost, remove the then acting chairperson, Ms Juliet Ibekaku and replaced her with Usani before tendering the application.

2. Why did Adoke substitute Usani with Akomaye in his application to the president seeking for the approval for a substantive DG for NFIU?

3. Lastly, what gave Lamorde the airs to disregard presidential order and appointed a man of his immediate choice?

Little wonder George Uboh has always regarded President Jonathan as a weakling whose orders could easily be discountenanced with impunity.

On the other hand, speaking about the EFCC, George Uboh’s quote on Channels TV resonates loudly: “EFCC is a Country within a Country”!

Recall that George Uboh’s petition against EFCC and Lamorde was instrumental to the removal of the latter as the EFCC chairman.
