Nigerian comedian Basketmouth has sparked conversation online after sharing his experience about the ongoing debate around foreigners and job opportunities in South Africa
According to him, he initially dismissed claims that foreigners were taking jobs meant for locals, believing it was just another widespread rumour. However, a recent encounter appears to have changed his perspective.
“Since I came to South Africa, I’ve been hearing people say foreigners are taking South Africans’ jobs. I didn’t believe it at first because I thought it was just a rumour. But today, I saw something that made me believe it. Just look at the status beside me,” he said.
Though he didn’t fully disclose what he saw, his statement has stirred mixed reactions across social media. While some users agree with his observation, others argue that the issue is more complex, involving economic conditions, unemployment rates, and immigration policies.
The topic of foreign nationals and job competition has long been a sensitive issue in South Africa, often leading to heated debates and, at times, tension within communities.
Basketmouth’s comment adds to the ongoing conversation, once again highlighting the realities and perceptions surrounding migration and employment in the region.
