ICJ orders Israel to halt operations in Rafah

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has ordered Israel to halt, with immediate effects, all operations in Rafah in the ongoing war against Hamas.
A Judge of the International Court of Justice gave the order while reading the judgement in the suit brought against Israel by South Africa over the situation in Palestine.
The court said that it is not convinced that Israel is doing enough to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians in Rafah.
More details of the verdict will be published by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM).
In the meantime, in a related development, DDM reported on Monday, May 20,2024, that the International Criminal Court sought an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas leaders.
The arrest warrant was for crimes against humanity over the situation in the State of Palestine.
The affected Hamas leaders include:
- Yahya Sinwar (Head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (“Hamas”) in the Gaza Strip),
- Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Asri, more commonly known as Deif (Commander-in-Chief of the military wing of Hamas, known as the Al-Qassam Brigades), and,
- Ismail Haniyeh (Head of Hamas Political Bureau).
