If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could have been N10,000 — Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed that it was only divine intervention that stopped the naira from crashing further against the US dollar.

He said this while speaking during Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja.

According to Adeboye, without God’s help, the exchange rate could have risen to N10,000 per dollar.

Adeboye explained that Nigeria’s financial struggles are connected to its dependence on fuel imports, despite the country’s vast oil resources.

He criticised the billions spent on refineries that remain non-functional, forcing the country to depend on imported petrol.

Also, the clergyman pinpointed the trouble surrounding the government’s decision to abruptly end fuel subsidies, which he said infuriated some who profited from the old system and created additional economic hardship.

“We need help, and it’s not human help, it’s divine help

“Before our president came in, we knew the root of our financial issues was the importation of petrol. We have oil, yet we kept importing petrol and wasting billions on refineries that didn’t work. When the president canceled the subsidy on petrol imports, people who profited from it got upset and created more problems.

“As the Naira continued to decline rapidly, I prayed, and thank God others joined in. If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could have been worth N10,000 by now. This shows how much we need prayers”, Adeboye said.

However, Adeboye stressed that his message had nothing to do with politics, stating, “I’m not a politician, nor will I ever be one. That’s not my calling”.
