If Kano can regulate alcohol, then Ondo, Oyo must have the same right to regulate herdsmen ~ Reno Omokri
Mixed reactions have continue to trail the rising political tension in the Southwest region of Nigeria after the executive governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu ordered Fulani herdsmen to vacate the forest reserve in the state.
The governor Akeredolu last week after a security meeting with stakeholders in the state unilaterally banned under age grazing of cattle, movement of cattle in major roads and cities and night grazing. He said the tough decision was taken after his administration discovered that the rampant cases of kidnapping for ransom and destruction of farm lands were orchestrated by fulani herdsmen.
The same brouhaha is also playing out in Oyo State as a Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho vowed that Fulani herdsmen will be chased away from the entire Yoruba land for inciting insecurity and banditry.
While addressing his supporters in Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State he said, “What is happening will not be limited to this place, we will drive out Fulani from entire Yoruba land. They want to be killing us. We will not accept this.”
Nigerians from all walks of life have lambasted president Mohammadu Buhari’s administration for shielding the Fulani criminals fueling the insecurity. Nigerians are wondering why the president can’t rise to the occasion of arresting these terror elements but will be fast to order the arrest of those innocent civilians who defend themselves against the rampaging herders.
However, Reno Omokri reacting to the political tension that is building up in Ondo and Oyo State said self defense is a universal human right and if Kano has the right to regulate alcohol, then Ondo and Oyo must have the same right to regulate herdsmen.
He said, “If herdsmen killed my neighbour and Buhari did nothing. If herdsmen killed my friend and Buhari did nothing. If herdsmen killed my brother and Buhari did nothing. Then why should #Buhari wake up when I defend myself? Should I have to die to prove that I am a patriotic Nigerian? Arresting Sunday Igboho is not a solution. The solution is to arrest the herdsmen responsible for the killing, kidnap, rape, and other crimes in Oyo.
“Not all herdsmen are involved. So, let government track down the few who perpetrate these crimes. Where government fails to punish crime, people will be forced to defend themselves. Self defense is a universal human right! If Kano has the right to regulate alcohol, then Ondo and Oyo must have the same right to regulate herdsmen.
“If #Buhari imposes a state of emergency in Oyo or Ondo, he will be beating drums of war! And no nation has historically survived 2 civil wars!”
