If not for prayer, Nigeria would have collapsed — Adeboye

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has said Nigeria’s situation would have been much worse if not for the power of prayer.

He insisted that without the constant intercession of believers, the country would be in a far more terrible state.

Speaking on Sunday during the church’s monthly Thanksgiving service and special prayers for security operatives at the RCCG headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Adeboye stressed that prayers have held the country together despite its many challenges.

“Some say, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting, where is the result?’ I laugh. If we had not prayed, Nigeria would have been in a far worse state. Let’s not stop,” he said.

The 82-year-old cleric said God’s protection over RCCG is both spiritual and undeniable, pointing to events where buildings linked to the church were mysteriously preserved in disasters.

“There is a shield over the RCCG, unseen but undeniably present,” Adeboye said, recalling how one RCCG house fellowship in the US was the only building left untouched in a row of 15 during a flood.

He also mentioned the March fire outbreak at Otedola Bridge in Lagos, where flames destroyed neighbouring buildings but skipped an RCCG structure in the same line.

“The buildings before and after were consumed, yet the RCCG building was left standing. That is not a coincidence, that is divine covering,” he added.

Adeboye noted that God still rules in the affairs of men and warned that if intercessors were to stop praying, Nigeria would feel the impact immediately.

“There is a God who rules in the affairs of men. If those praying would pause for just one week, the difference would be terrifying. Keep praying. God controls the hearts of kings.”

He further reminded the congregation that true security lies only in God, not in physical systems or weapons.
