“If Pastors Are Silent on Insecurity, They Are Part of the System” — Spyro

Nigerian singer Spyro has stirred fresh conversations online after speaking strongly about the role of religious leaders in addressing Nigeria’s worsening insecurity situation.

The music star stated that pastors and other spiritual leaders who choose to remain silent in the face of rising violence and insecurity across the country cannot be completely separated from the system they are refusing to challenge.

According to Spyro, silence from influential religious figures amounts to complicity, especially at a time when many Nigerians are living in fear due to recurring cases of banditry, kidnappings, and other violent attacks.

“If pastors are not speaking up about insecurity, they are part of the system. I have every right to call them out,” he said.

His comments have since sparked debate on social media, with many users divided over whether religious leaders should take a more vocal stance on national issues or focus strictly on spiritual matters.

While some agreed with Spyro’s position, arguing that pastors have significant influence and should use their platforms to demand accountability, others felt that his remarks were too harsh and generalized.

The conversation adds to ongoing national discussions about insecurity in Nigeria and the responsibility of public figures both religious and secular in speaking out against societal challenges.

As reactions continue to pour in, Spyro’s statement has once again highlighted the growing tension between faith, leadership, and civic responsibility in the country.
