Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed his support for the impeachment of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Igbokwe’s comments followed the announcement that Obasa was removed from office on January 12, 2025, due to allegations of various financial and statutory misconduct.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the removal of Obasa paved the way for Hon. Mojisola Meranda Ojora, who was the Deputy Speaker, to be sworn in as the new Speaker.

Igbokwe, who took to his Facebook page to celebrate the decision, described the impeachment as long overdue.

He praised the Assembly for taking action against Obasa.

In his post, Igbokwe specifically mentioned the charges of gross misconduct and abuse of office that led to Obasa’s ousting.

He confirmed the allegations that had been circulating in the political sphere.

According to Igbokwe, Obasa’s behavior had been problematic for some time.

Additionally, Igbokwe suggested that Obasa’s strained relationship with Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, played a significant role in the former Speaker’s removal.

He claimed that Obasa had been at odds with Governor Sanwo-Olu for years.

Despite multiple efforts by the Governor and members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) to resolve the tension and bring Obasa into alignment with the Governor’s agenda, these efforts proved ineffective.

Igbokwe asserted that Obasa ignored numerous pleas to work together.

This lack of cooperation ultimately contributed to his political downfall.

The impeachment of Obasa has sparked discussions about governance and political dynamics within the Lagos State House of Assembly.

It has also raised questions about the relationship between key political figures in the state.

With the appointment of Moji Ojora as the new Speaker, many are keen to see how the leadership change will impact the direction of the Assembly.

There is also interest in how it will affect its alignment with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration moving forward.

Igbokwe’s comments emphasize that the decision to remove Obasa was a necessary step in ensuring effective governance in Lagos State.
