Ignore Nationwide Protests Over Hardship At Your Peril – APC Chieftain Warns

Salihu Mohammed Lukman, a former national vice chairman (North West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has warned President Bola Tinubu not to pay attention to the widespread demonstrations against the rising cost of living.
Lukman, a former director general of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), issued a warning in an Abuja statement on Wednesday, stating that if the concerns were not resolved, there would soon be widespread protests around the nation.
“As it stands, our party’s renewed hope agenda has been floated,” he declared. Renewed Hope is being traded for Renewed Anger, much like the Naira exchange rate. The value is starting to provoke citizens more and more.
“There is hunger throughout the country, if the truth must be stated! Being an ardent APC supporter, I find it extremely disheartening that this is taking place under our party’s leadership. The claim made by Mr. Felix Morka, our National Publicity Secretary, that opposition parties are orchestrating the protests was even more disheartening.
“It is clear from Mr. Morka’s extremely deceptive statement that our party’s leadership has fully lost it, and at this point, their political utility value is zero. This makes it quite evident that even the outdated pretense of being progressive has been abandoned.
How is it possible that the opposition is funding demonstrations in the APC’s strongholds? Kano and Minna are both important APC bases. The APC is the ruling party in Minna, Niger State. The APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is a native of Kano state.
It is already defeatist to imply that any opposition party could organize people to demonstrate against our government. The harsh truth is that these protests make sense in light of the circumstances Nigerians find themselves in.
In a very short time, these protests will spread like wildfire over the entire nation if these truths are ignored. Nobody should be misled; these are legitimate protests that aim to gauge our party’s, our leaders’, and most importantly, our democracy’s responsiveness. It may be dangerous for the APC and President Asiwaju Tinubu to ignore them.
