ABUJA, Nigeria — Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu has approved the immediate redeployment of 10 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to strategic commands, departments and formations across Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen policing, improve operational efficiency and enhance security nationwide.
The redeployment was conveyed in a police wireless signal issued by the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, July 27, 2026. The directive, titled “Posting Senior Officers” and marked “Most Immediate,” was circulated to police commands, departments, training institutions and specialized formations across the country for immediate implementation.
According to the signal, the reshuffle affects senior officers assigned to zonal commands, operational departments and specialized investigative units.
Under the new postings, AIG Polycarp Emeka Nwonyi has been deployed to Zone 9 Command, Umuahia, while AIG Obono Nnaghe Itam assumes duty as Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos.
AIG Bassey Samuel Ewa has been posted to Zone 15 Command, Maiduguri, and AIG Osagie John Agans-Irabor takes charge of Zone 3 Command, Yola. AIG Monday Agbonika has also been redeployed to Zone 5 Command, Benin.
At the Force Headquarters in Abuja, AIG Daniel Edobor Iyamah has been assigned to the Department of Operations, where he is expected to oversee operational planning and coordination of policing activities nationwide.
The reshuffle also sees AIG Isah Danladi Nda posted to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Kaduna, while AIG Akaniyene Ifebem Ezima has been redeployed to the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Abuja to strengthen the fight against cybercrime.
In addition, AIG Bello Rashid Afegbua has been posted to Zone 6 Command, Calabar, while AIG Betty Enekpen Otimenyin has been assigned to Zone 8 Command, Lokoja.
Police authorities said the postings take immediate effect, directing departments responsible for personnel records, establishment matters and computer documentation to update official records accordingly.
The wireless signal was distributed to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, the Departments of Operations, Finance and Administration, and Information and Communication Technology. It was also circulated to all 17 zonal commands, Commissioners of Police in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, tactical units, police colleges and other formations nationwide.
The latest redeployment is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to reposition its leadership structure, enhance operational effectiveness and improve service delivery across commands as the force continues addressing evolving security challenges throughout the country.
