Chief Emeka Ihedioha, former Governor of Imo State, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in his political journey.

This move comes ahead of the 2027 elections and signals a realignment in Imo State’s political landscape.

While specific reasons behind Ihedioha’s decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aren’t detailed, his move to the ADC suggests a desire for a new platform to promote his vision for Imo State’s development.

Ihedioha resigned from the PDP in April 2024 and had been without a political party since then.

Addressing members of his Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM) at his Owerri residence, Ihedioha declared that the ADC is now his political home and the new platform for his supporters.

He issued a directive to RIM leaders and supporters to begin mobilizing across the state under the ADC banner.

Ihedioha emphasized that “My party, your party, our party is now ADC. That is the way to go. That is the party for all of us”.

Ihedioha’s defection to the ADC is seen as a significant boost to the party’s strength in Imo State.

As a former governor and deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Ihedioha’s influence could sway voters in the state.

The ADC’s unveiling in Abuja, attended by prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar, suggests a growing coalition of opposition leaders .

Ihedioha has declared the ADC as his new political home, citing it as the way forward for him and his supporters.

He has called on his vast grassroots structure to mobilize across Imo State under the ADC platform.

A report states: ” An earthquake has happened in Imo state. Former Governor Emeka Ihedioha has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — and he’s not going alone

“In a powerful move, Ihedioha has directed all members of his Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM) to shift allegiance to the ADC.

“The time has come to embrace a new future with a people-driven platform. ADC is that future,” he declared.

He said the announcement is already shaking up Imo’s political landscape and could signal the beginning of a new political force in the Southeast.
