IMHA moves to boost mineral resources, raw materials endowment

Moved by the desire to further drive and stimulate growth and development in the state, the Imo State House Of Assembly has urged the State Government to direct the Imo State Investment And Promotion Agency (ISIPA) to identify, articulate and promote the State’s vast mineral resources and raw materials.

This was the outcome of the House Plenary activity on Tuesday 20/05/2025.

Moving the Motion, the Member Representing Ikeduru State Constituency, Hon Chief Johnleoba Iheoha, explained that the State has abundant mineral resources and raw materials, and if properly harnessed, can create thousands of jobs, both directly and indirectly, drive and stimulate economic growth, which can lead to the development of infrastructure in the state.

The Ikeduru lawmaker further explained that the discovery, exploitation and utilization of the mineral resources and raw materials can further attract investments, as well as increasing the state’s internally generated revenue and reduce dependency on federal allocation.

To achieve all these, Hon Iheoha, who is also the House Committee Chairman On Commerce and Industry, added that the State Government Agency, Imo State Investment And Promotion Agency (ISIPA) should be directed to identify, articulate, document and promote all the mineral resources and raw materials available in the state, so as to attract the needed investors, to stimulate economic growth.

The Motion which was seconded by the Member Representing Isiala Mbano State Constituency and the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon Sam Ikechukwu Osuji, was co-sponsored by the following lawmakers :

Hon Engr Bernard Ndubuisi Ozoemelam (Ehime Mbano) and Hon Okey Ernest Udeze (Ideato-North) made useful contributions in support of the Motion.

Satisfied with contributions from Honourable Members, the Speaker, Rt Honourable Chike Olemgbe, who presided, put it to vote and it was unanimously adopted. Thereafter, he Ruled as follows :

* Be It Resolved By This Honourable House To Urge His Excellency The Governor Of Imo State, To Direct The Imo State Investment And Promotion Agency (ISIPA) To :

(a) Conduct a comprehensive identification and articulation of all mineral resources and raw materials in Imo State.

(b) Gather comprehensive database and promotional materials, highlighting Imo State’s investment potentials ; and

(c) Publish the information on all the print and electronic platforms, including social media, to attract investors and promote Imo State’s economic development for the benefit of Imo Economy.

The Clerk was directed to communicate the Resolution of the House to His Excellency the Governor.
