Imo Marathon: Uzodimma hails Youths for fighting Insecurity

The Imo Youth maiden marathon tagged Marathon of Peace has been held in grand style with emergence of winners and losers
The Marathon which attracted great number of youths from across the state who turned out to participate started from the Government House entrance gate to Heroes square along Concord road Owerri
Clinton Amara came first in the male category while Affigbo Esther and Elias Jecinta made first and second positions in the female category amongst other 20 winners.
Flagging off the competition, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State commended youths in the state for working against insecurity in the land
Uzodimma commended the youths for coming out in their large numbers to participate in the Marathon organized through the Ministry of Youth and Talent Hunt Development.
He said that the exercise will make the youth healthy, think well and straight all the time, while commending the Commissioner for Youths and Talent Hunt Development, Hon. Emeka Mandela for his resilience in mobilizing the youths of the state.
Uzodimma pledged his administration’ determination to continue to support the youths in the state to live a meaningful life both for their own benefit and that of the state.
In his speech at the flag-off, the Commisioner for Youths and Talent Hunt Development, Hon. Emeka Mandela said that youths participation in the Marathon tagged Peace Marathon shows their respect to government which is targeted at ensuring the promotiion of peace in the state
He said: ” Imo State is now a safe heaven amongst the entire states in the Federation”
He declared that the winners in both male and female category will go home with N500,000 each among other consolation cash prizes.
The Imo Youth Maiden Marathon, themed “Running for Peace,” recently took place in Owerri, Imo State’s capital.

Date and Location: The marathon was held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, starting at the Imo Government House and ending at Heroes Square, with runners passing through Wetheral Road and inland roads.
– Organizers: The event was organized by the Imo State Ministry of Youth and Talent Hunt, headed by Hon. Emeka Mandela Ukaegbu, to promote peace, unity, and healthy living among youths.
– Participation: The marathon was open to all Imo youths, who could register online or physically at the Ministry of Youth office.
Participants were indexed with numbers, which were required to participate in the marathon.
– Prizes: Winners in both male and female categories received ₦500,000 each, with consolation prizes ranging from the second to the 20th positions.
– Partnerships: Prohealth HMO Limited partnered with the Imo State Government to successfully host the maiden edition of the Imo Youth Marathon, demonstrating their commitment to supporting youth-focused and health-driven programs.
– Objective: The marathon aimed to engage youths in promoting peace and responsibility, while also promoting health and wellness through running.
Governor Hope Uzodinma emphasized the critical role of youth in shaping Imo State’s future and encouraged participants to foster an environment of dialogue and understanding.
