Imo Police Uncovers Child Trafficking Ring, Rescues 12 Children

Police in Imo State have smashed a child trafficking syndicate, saving twelve stolen children in a dramatic operation.

Officers arrested Ann Ngozi Enyenwa during a routine checkpoint along the Owerri-Aba Expressway last month.

The children, looking visibly distressed, immediately raised officers’ suspicions during the interception.

Authorities quickly transferred the case to the Inspector-General’s special X-Squad unit for deeper investigation. During questioning, Enyenwa allegedly admitted trafficking children from Ngor-Okpala to Aba for forced begging. Shockingly, she claimed the profits went to a Rivers State orphanage where she worked.

The rescued children, aged five to thirteen, come from various Ngor-Okpala communities. Their names have been released to help identify their families. Police are now working urgently to reunite them with relatives while keeping them safe in protective custody.

Imo’s police spokesperson DSP Okooye Henry confirmed details in an official statement last week. He stressed how crucial public cooperation remains in fighting child exploitation. Community members who recognize any children should contact authorities immediately through provided hotlines.

Commissioner Aboki Danjuma strongly condemned the trafficking network, vowing to protect Imo’s children. “These crimes attack our children’s basic rights and society’s values,” he declared. The police chief promised relentless efforts to dismantle such operations completely.
