The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) is a faction of Boko Haram that emerged after an internal split in 2016.

It was formerly known as Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād before pledging allegiance to the Islamic State.

ISWAP gained more power after the death of Boko Haram’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, in 2021.

Many Boko Haram fighters defected to ISWAP, strengthening its control in parts of northeastern Nigeria.

The group has continued to launch deadly attacks, targeting security forces, government institutions, and civilians.

The Nigerian military has repeatedly claimed victories against insurgents, but ISWAP remains active.

The terrorist group has caused over 100,000 deaths and displaced millions of people.

Despite military efforts, ISWAP continues to pose a serious security threat.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, ISWAP, has released a video showing the execution of three Nigerian soldiers.

The execution took place on March 15, 2025, in Yobe State, Nigeria.

The soldiers were captured in the Kamuya and Azare areas before being executed by ISWAP insurgents.

A video of the execution surfaced online, showing the soldiers kneeling in an open field.

The three soldiers introduced themselves as members of the Nigerian security forces before their execution.

Masked insurgents, dressed in military fatigues, stood behind them with guns.

Moments later, the insurgents opened fire, killing the soldiers on the spot.

ISWAP has been expanding its influence in the Lake Chad region since Abubakar Shekau’s death.

The group has absorbed many former Boko Haram fighters, increasing its strength.

Despite military operations against them, ISWAP continues to launch deadly attacks.

The Nigerian Army has often claimed that insurgency has been defeated.

However, incidents like this prove that ISWAP remains a significant security threat.

The terror group has targeted military bases, villages, and government institutions.

Its attacks have led to the deaths of thousands and the displacement of millions.

Security analysts warn that ISWAP’s activities could escalate further in the coming months.

The Nigerian government has not yet issued an official response to this execution.

Military sources say efforts are ongoing to track the insurgents responsible for the killings.

The execution of the three soldiers highlights the urgent need for stronger counterinsurgency strategies.

Residents in affected areas continue to live in fear due to ISWAP’s activities.

Many communities in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states have suffered repeated attacks.

Humanitarian organizations report that the crisis has worsened living conditions in the region.

Thousands of displaced persons rely on aid for survival due to the ongoing violence.

The Nigerian military has intensified operations, but ISWAP remains resilient.

The government must adopt a more strategic approach to counter the insurgency effectively.

International organizations have called for more support to combat terrorism in the region.

The execution of these soldiers serves as a grim reminder of the challenges ahead.

Nigeria’s security forces must take urgent steps to prevent further losses.
