The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Sunday 9, 2025, issued a warning to politicians and individuals in the South-East region against looting.

This comes after 250 billion Naira were allocated for the newly established South-East Development Commission (SEDC).

In a statement released by it’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, he emphasised that the South-East region urgently needs development and infrastructure projects to improve the lives of the people.

Mr. Power, pointed out areas where the funds should be directed, including road construction and expansion, rehabilitation of federal hospitals, establishment of new healthcare facilities, and the construction of power plants to provide affordable electricity.

He said “The attention of the noble family of IPOB worldwide has been drawn to the purported sum of N250bn appropriated for the newly created South-East Development Commission, under the chairmanship of Dr. Emeka Nworgu, and supervised by former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who serves as the Senate Committee Chairman of the Commission.

“If this information is true, we wish to warn Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and those handling this money to ensure that it is not shared among individuals, but is fully utilised for the development of Alaigbo.

“The funds are meant to initiate and complete developmental projects in the region.

“The South-East is in dire need of social intervention programmes and industrialisation efforts that will create jobs for the teeming youthful population of Alaigbo.”

IPOB stressed out, the need for the establishment of free trade zones or industrial parks in Abia and Anambra states to invest in human capital development, including construction of seaports and international airports.

The group argued that providing technical and creative skill support to young people in the region would unlock their natural potential.

“We are aware that the money alone won’t build an airport or seaport, but as a yearly accrued fund, it must be properly utilized.

“Investing in human capital such as supporting youths with technical and creative skills, will help them develop their natural ingenuity and creativity.” IPOB added.

The group insisted that, a safe environment and proper government support were essential for the commission to achieve its objectives.

IPOB issued a warning to politicians, cautioning them against misusing funds for personal benefit.

Specifically, targeted on extravagant seminars, unnecessary conferences, and foreign trips taken under false pretenses.

“This is not the time for politicians to loot the common treasury without accountability.

“IPOB is here to monitor and expose any corrupt activities, and we will not hesitate to call out those who work against the interests of the South-East region.

“The appropriated funds, if confirmed, belong to the entire South-East and must benefit all communities equitably. No state, local government, or community should have an undue advantage over another.

“The SEDC board members must ensure that the impact of the N250bn is felt across the entire Igbo land. Equity and justice must be upheld to prevent any form of discontent.”

IPOB also issued a direct warning to the officials overseeing the commission, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr. Benjamin Kalu, and SEDC Chairman Dr. Emeka Nworgu.

“The success or failure of the SEDC will rest on the shoulders of Igbo leaders like Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Dr. Benjamin Kalu, and Dr. Emeka Nworgu.

“If the commission fails, they will be held responsible; if it succeeds, they will receive due recognition. IPOB is closely monitoring their actions and will not hesitate to hold them accountable.”

The group concluded by reiterating that any individual found guilty of mismanaging the funds would face serious consequences.
