IPOB: Nnamdi Kanu’s Release Will Bring Peace to Southeast

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reiterated that the freedom of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, will lead to peace in the Southeast region.

This assurance comes after Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide President General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, visited Kanu in detention.

In a statement issued on Saturday, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, clarified that Kanu is not involved in criminal activities and did not order the killing of soldiers.

Instead, he has consistently advocated for peaceful remembrance of fallen heroes and an end to violence.

“The same way we don’t want any Biafran killed is how we don’t want any other person or persons to lose their lives. All lives are precious before God, and the freedom for Biafra will mean nothing if we don’t value the lives of fellow human beings,” the statement read.

IPOB demands Kanu’s release to bring peace to the region, reiterating that his freedom will end insecurity in the Southeast. “We believe that his release will calm the tension in the region and lead to peaceful coexistence among all,” Emma Powerful said.

The group praised Chief Iwuanyanwu for visiting Kanu, describing it as a “bold move.” “We appreciate the efforts of Chief Iwuanyanwu in visiting our leader in detention. It shows that he is a man of peace and cares about the well-being of our leader and the Igbo people,” the statement said.

IPOB reiterated its commitment to peaceful agitation, saying that Kanu’s release will fast-track the freedom of Biafra. “We will continue to agitate peacefully for the freedom of Biafra, and we believe that Kanu’s release will be a significant step towards achieving our goal,” the statement concluded.
