Iran gives US two days to meet demands, reopen Hormuz

Iran has said it is ready to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days if the United States accepts its conditions, as diplomatic exchanges between both countries continue through mediators.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei disclosed this on Monday, saying the proposed timeline demonstrated Tehran’s willingness to resolve the dispute.

“The possibility of implementing this plan in two days is another indication of Iran’s good-faith approach,” Baqaei said.

He added that Iran had communicated its position to Washington through intermediaries and that reopening the strategic waterway would depend on the US accepting its demands.

“We have stated that, if Iran’s demands are met, it would be possible to restore security to the Strait of Hormuz and resume the negotiating process within a short period,” he said.

“Only then can we discuss the subsequent stages.”

The demands include an end to the Middle East war on all fronts, the unfreezing of Iranian assets held abroad, the lifting of sanctions on its oil sector and an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Iran had previously proposed a seven-day plan in September, which it reportedly conveyed to Washington through Qatar. Under that proposal, Tehran would reopen the strait on the sixth day after the United States met its conditions.

In an interview with Al Jazeera released on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Washington must also accept a new transit arrangement agreed between Iran and Oman.

He further demanded the removal of sanctions imposed in recent months and a reduction in the number of American troops stationed in the region.

Iran warns against renewed US attacks

The development comes amid renewed threats by the United States and Israel to launch further attacks against Iran.

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Washington still had “one or two targets” to deal with, including Pickaxe Mountain, a suspected underground nuclear facility in central Iran. Tehran has denied that the site is a nuclear facility.

Meanwhile, Baqaei warned that any fresh military action against Iran would trigger an immediate response.

“Any act of aggression against Iran, any military attack against Iran, by whatever means, will be met with a powerful, immediate and comprehensive response from us,” he said.

The conflict, which began in late February, has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global energy supplies.

Iran has asserted control over the waterway and regularly targets vessels attempting to cross without its authorisation. The United States, in response, has imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Washington has also introduced additional sanctions against Tehran since August, describing the measures as part of its economic pressure campaign.
