Iran has said its delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York has no plans to hold new negotiations with the United States.
Iranian state media reported the development on Monday, citing an unnamed source close to the delegation.
“Iran’s delegation in New York has no plans for negotiations with the United States,” the official IRNA news agency quoted the source as saying.
The statement came a day after US President Donald Trump said he expected talks between Washington and Tehran to resume soon.
Trump made the comment to Axios on Sunday, shortly after rejecting an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.
Tehran had proposed a seven-day plan under which the strategic waterway would be reopened if certain conditions were met, paving the way for further negotiations.
The latest development adds uncertainty to efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict between the two countries.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has maintained that any reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would depend on agreed conditions and negotiations.
