Israeli Forces Advance Deeper into Rafah, As Diplomatic Efforts Falter
Israeli tanks have pushed deeper into the western area of Rafah, Gaza, amidst intense bombardment from air, ground, and sea, forcing families to flee their homes and tents in darkness.
The advance marks one of the most intense nights of violence in the conflict, with residents reporting widespread destruction.
The Israeli military has denied striking within the designated humanitarian zone of Al-Mawasi, but residents claim tanks have thrust into the area, which is supposed to be a safe haven.
The assault aims to eradicate Hamas’ remaining combat units in Rafah, a city that has sheltered over a million people. Most have now fled north towards Khan Younis and Deir Al-Balah.
The Israeli military claims to have struck 45 targets across Gaza, including military structures, militant cells, rocket launchers, and tunnel shafts.
However, Hamas remains resilient, with militants re-emerging to fight in areas previously declared cleared by Israeli forces.
Diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire continue, with Qatar, Egypt, and the US pushing for an agreement.
Hamas has welcomed a new US ceasefire proposal but made amendments, insisting on a permanent end to the war and full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Israel has rejected this stance, demanding Hamas’ eradication before any peace talks.
The conflict has killed at least 37,000 people, according to Gaza’s health ministry, with thousands more feared buried under rubble.
The invasion has displaced most of the 2.3 million population, with many seeking refuge in humanitarian zones like Al-Mawasi.
The international community remains concerned about the escalating violence, with efforts to secure a ceasefire ongoing. The situation remains dire, with both sides dug in and determined to achieve their goals.
