israeli strikes destroys military sites in Syria

Amid a security void following the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad by opposition forces, Israel has launched a flurry of aerial attacks throughout Syria, targeting strategic military locations.

According to report, Israel attacked Syrian navy ships and military warehouses, and struck an air defense site near the port city of Latakia.

The electronic warfare administration, research facilities, and military stations were the targets of strikes in and around the capital, Damascus.

According to Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), conflict monitor, Israel had “destroyed the most important military sites in Syria, including Syrian airports and their warehouses, aircraft squadrons, radars, military signal stations, and many weapons and ammunition depots in various locations in most Syrian governorates”.

Following the overthrow of al-Assad, Israel, which borders Syria, moved troops into a buffer zone east of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights for “security reasons”.

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar called this a “limited and temporary step”.

According to SOHR, it has also conducted “about 250 airstrikes on Syrian territory” in the past 48 hours in an effort to undermine the military capabilities of the previous regime.

A top security official cited by Israel’s media said that the attacks were the biggest air operation the Air Force has ever conducted.

Another report from Damascus stated, “Israel’s attacks on Syria are systematic”.

“The destruction of Syria’s defense bases is their goal”.

According to Serdar, Israel’s most recent attacks targeted weapons stores and other key military locations in addition to three major airports in Homs, Qamishli, and Damascus.

Serdar stated, “Israel claims it is doing this because it is concerned that these strategic facilities and military equipment could fall into the hands of the opposition”.

The Salvation Government, which al-Assad’s Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali promised to hand over authority to, on Monday, did not immediately respond.

In spite of Israel’s increasing attacks in the region, the US government has been criticized by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a US Muslim organization, for continuing to assist Israel.

CAIR claimed that the “Syrian people deserve to rebuild their country free from foreign occupation and violence”.

Moving ‘beyond’ the Golan

Following Israeli troops’ capture of additional terrain in a buffer zone close to the occupied Syrian Golan heights, there was a rush of airstrikes.

United Nations peacekeepers said the assault violated a 50-year ceasefire agreement with Syria that created the buffer zone.

A senior political analyst stated, “Israel has taken the opportunity of Damascus being preoccupied with a change of regime to expand their presence in the Golan Heights and perhaps beyond.

Israel called it temporary, but we know the implications when Israel says temporary.

“In the occupied West Bank, for example, it’s been almost six decades”.

According to reports, Syria had been at war for nearly 13 years.

But the rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) launched a rapid onslaught that overthrew the al-Assad regime in a matter of days.

Similar to the prime minister, Syria’s parliament, which was once pro-Assad, declared its support for “the will of the people to build a new Syria towards a better future governed by law and justice”.

“A transitional phase in Syria aimed at defending the unity of the country” is what the Baath party declared it would embrace.
