JAMB 2025: Anambra Student Emerges as Top UTME Scorer

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially named Okeke Chinedu Christian, a student from Anambra State, as the top scorer in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with an outstanding score of 375 out of 400.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ish-aq Oloyede, made the announcement during the 2025 Policy Meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

Top 3 Scorers Target Mechanical Engineering

Chinedu, who earned national recognition for his exceptional performance, selected the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as his first-choice institution and hopes to study Mechanical Engineering.

Close behind him is Ayuba Simon-Peter John, a student from Gombe State, who scored 374. Ayuba chose Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) for the same course Mechanical Engineering.

The third-highest scorer, Jimoh Abdulmalik Olayinka from Kwara State, secured a score of 373. He also selected UNILAG and listed Mechanical Engineering as his intended course.

All three top performers are male and displayed a strong preference for engineering, particularly in the mechanical field, a trend that continues to dominate among top science-inclined candidates.

Score Rankings Among Nearly 2 Million Candidates

For a clearer picture of this year’s performance landscape, JAMB revealed ranking brackets based on total scores from the 1,905,539 candidates who sat for the exam:

  • A score of 370 ranked 16th
  • 320 ranked 5,806th
  • 250 ranked 107,819th
  • 200 ranked 533,805th
  • 180 ranked 948,025th
  • 140 ranked 1,855,607th
  • 120 ranked 1,900,872nd
  • 100 ranked 1,903,661st

These figures highlight the sharp competition and performance gaps across candidates Nationwide.

JAMB Reaffirms Transparency and Merit

Prof. Oloyede reaffirmed JAMB’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and merit-based admissions, stressing that excellence will always be rewarded.

He encouraged candidates to remain hopeful and advised institutions to uphold the principles of merit while conducting the 2025 admission process.

As the 2025 UTME cycle progresses, universities across Nigeria are expected to begin releasing their admission lists, starting with the top scorers and first-choice applicants.
