Hollywood actor Jamie Foxx has revealed that he once believed he was being cloned into a white version of himself while recovering from a life-threatening stroke in 2023.
The Oscar-winning actor shared the bizarre experience during a recent interview with Big Boy, explaining how online conspiracy theories about his health made him question what was happening to him while he was undergoing rehabilitation.
Foxx said he secretly accessed his phone during his recovery to find out what people were saying about his medical emergency. After coming across claims that he had been cloned, he admitted that the theory began to make sense to him at the time.
“When it came to me trying to figure out what really happened to me, I snuck my phone to see what people were saying. And when I read the clone thing, that made sense to me,” Foxx recalled.
The actor, known for films including Ray, Django Unchained and Collateral, went on to describe what he believed was an encounter with another version of himself.
“Then I saw me walk in. I thought I saw me walking to my own room. I see me, but I’m white!” he said.
According to Foxx, the experience led him to believe that someone was attempting to create a white version of him so his films could perform better in international markets.
He also recalled confronting a psychiatrist about the experience, joking about whether he was alright or “all white.” The psychiatrist reportedly suggested reducing his medication dosage after assessing him.
Foxx’s account was shared as part of a conversation about his recovery and the strange experiences he encountered during the period. His remarks do not establish that any cloning took place; rather, he described how the conspiracy theory affected his thinking while he was seriously ill and receiving medication.
In April 2023, Foxx suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke while he was in Atlanta filming the Netflix action comedy Back in Action. The medical emergency left him hospitalised and fighting for his life.
He later disclosed in his Netflix comedy special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, released in December 2024, that he had been unconscious for approximately 20 days. After regaining consciousness, he found himself in a wheelchair and faced a difficult rehabilitation process.
His family played a significant role in supporting his recovery, while his daughter, Anelise, helped lift his spirits by playing music for him.
Foxx has since used humour to recount the frightening experience, including the rumours and conspiracy theories that circulated while he was away from the public eye.
His latest revelation offers another glimpse into the uncertainty he experienced during his recovery, while highlighting how online speculation can affect someone already struggling to understand a serious medical crisis.
