Journey to Anambra on Capacity Building Workshop and Media Training

Sponsored by Coalition for Protection of Democracy and Diaspora Digital Media for State Publicity Secretaries – Nwankwegu Augustine

On 24th November 2024 I embarked on a journey with popular company known as Onitsha South at Abakaliki International Motor Park and It took an hours before the vehicle gets filled with passenger’s due to low turn-up of passenger, but the driver moved out of the park exactly 2.10 PM and the journey covered 3 State within the southeast of Nigeria
My experienced on the journey are.

(a) Excess loading; there was over load in the vehicle booth which stopped the driver from using overhead mirror when driving on the road, even under the seat and you cannot stretch your leg, most of the business class does travel mostly but prefer waybill due to high-cost premier motor spirit (PMS) in order to reduce the cost of product in the market.

(b) Excess Police Checkpoint; there was 20 checkpoints on the daytime mostly from Enugu State to UNIZIK Junction Awka, while only two checkpoints at Abakaliki axes. Although the excess checkpoint is due to insecurity on the road, but extortion is going on the checkpoints which is one hundred naira per checkpoint.

(c) One service lane; starting from Ezzamgbo Junction in Abakaliki (Ebonyi State) one lane of the road is ongoing maintenance, while from Enugu State (Abakpa Junction) there was total breakdown of one lane which makes the movement slow.

(d) Pothole; there was numerous potholes on the road within Enugu to Awka axis’s, due to poor maintenance by the Government.
The driver was able to maintain all the traffic cautions on the road when driving, but the journey took 3 hours 40 minutes instead of 2 hours 37 minutes which is 136.8km which is additional 1 hour 3 minutes, despite the speed limit was 90 KM/HR.
