JUST IN: 9mobile rebrands to T2

One of Nigeria’s leading telecommunications firms, 9mobile, has officially rebranded to T2, marking a fresh chapter for the company following its acquisition by LH Telecommunication Limited.
The unveiling took place on Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos, nearly a year after LH Telecommunication acquired a 95.5% majority stake in the operator.
This marks the company’s second rebrand in less than a decade the first being in 2017, when it transitioned from Etisalat to 9mobile.
“A Bold New Chapter” for the Telecom Brand
Speaking at the ceremony, Femi Banigbe, CEO of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), said the rebrand was more than a visual change.
“This is not just a brand unveiling; it is the beginning of a bold new chapter in our history,” Banigbe said.
“We are becoming something more ambitious, driven by a renewed mission and deeper commitment to our customers.”
He emphasised that the transformation reflects Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, where speed, connectivity, and relevance are essential for both businesses and individuals.
Banigbe highlighted the nation’s energetic youth, thriving startup scene, and resilient SMEs as key drivers of change.
“In the face of overwhelming odds, Nigerians have shown resilience and tenacity that continues to inspire the world,” he added.
Government Applauds Industry Growth
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, praised mobile network operators (MNOs) for their role in Nigeria’s digital transformation.
He noted that active mobile lines have grown from under 1 million in 2001 to over 220 million today, with broadband penetration soaring from single digits to nearly 50%.
“The MNOs have invested boldly over ₦75 billion in towers, fibre, and 5G all without government subsidies,” Tijani said.
“They contribute around 16% to Nigeria’s GDP and have created millions of jobs.”
Tijani described the T2 rebrand as a sign of readiness to innovate and compete on a global stage.
“Let this be more than a change of colours or logo let it be a renewed commitment to service excellence for the millions of Nigerians who depend on your network,” he said.
The T2 leadership pledged to remain “proudly Nigerian” while expanding its technological capabilities to meet the growing demands of the market.
The rebrand is expected to usher in new products, improved network performance, and deeper community engagement.
