VIDEO: Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, Amaechi Arrives Yar’Dua Centre For ADC Coalition Meeting

In what could signal the beginning of a powerful political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections, leading figures from Nigeria’s top opposition parties have converged at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja for the official unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the adopted platform for a new mega opposition coalition.
Among the political heavyweights in attendance are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Senate President David Mark, who now serves as the ADC’s interim national chairman.
Also present are former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, recently named interim national secretary, along with prominent opposition figures including Senator Dino Melaye, former Sports Minister Solomon Dalong, Dele Momodu, Senator Gabriel Suswam, and Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party.
Other notable attendees include former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, former Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd.), and delegates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Labour Party (LP), underscoring the wide coalition being formed to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The gathering comes just hours after the coalition was forced to relocate the unveiling from the Wells Carlton Hotel due to an abrupt cancellation by the venue.
The move, described by some attendees as politically motivated, did little to derail the high-stakes meeting.
Speaking at the media conference, sources close to the coalition revealed that discussions are ongoing to formalize a united front against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The ADC, originally formed in 2005, has now emerged as the “bride party” for a diverse alliance of political actors seeking a new political direction for Nigeria.
Meanwhile, tension continues to rise within the APC as loyalists of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s CPC bloc accuse Tinubu of marginalizing their faction in both governance and party structures.
The ADC coalition’s momentum suggests a looming political showdown, with an energized opposition preparing to challenge Tinubu’s reelection bid in what is shaping up to be one of Nigeria’s fiercest electoral battles.
