Governor Otti fires back at rumours linking him to APC
DDM News

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has strongly refuted swirling rumours that he is planning to leave the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) the governor dismissed the reports as baseless, misleading, and a calculated attempt to sow confusion among the public.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti insisted that there is no truth whatsoever to the defection rumours.
Ekeoma clarified that the meeting between Otti and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, which fuelled the speculation, was grossly misrepresented.
He explained that Governor Otti had attended the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, April 24.
After the meeting, Governor Otti, along with a few other governors, accepted an invitation to attend a private family event hosted by Governor Uzodimma.
The event was a birthday celebration for Uzodimma’s twin daughters and had absolutely no political undertones, Ekeoma stressed.
According to him, the gathering was purely social, and no discussions regarding party defection or political alignments took place.
Ekeoma emphasized that Governor Otti’s presence at the family event should not be twisted to suggest political manoeuvring.
He further stated that the governor’s rising profile and notable achievements in office could be fueling deliberate misinformation.
Ekeoma alleged that certain political actors may feel threatened by Otti’s performance and thus resort to spreading false narratives.
He described the rumour as a poorly crafted distraction aimed at derailing the governor’s focus on good governance.
Governor Otti, Ekeoma reiterated, is deeply committed to the Labour Party and the vision that brought him into office.
He added that Otti’s administration is determined to focus on delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Abia State.
According to Ekeoma, the governor believes that engaging in political scheming for the 2027 election is premature and counterproductive.
He stressed that Otti’s priorities remain firmly rooted in governance, development, and service to the citizens of Abia State.
Ekeoma maintained that Governor Otti is not in any form of discussion or negotiation aimed at defecting to another political party.
He assured that any change in the governor’s political affiliations, if it ever arises, would be communicated through official channels.
Ekeoma advised the public to disregard politically motivated gossip and stay focused on the visible progress being made in the state.
Governor Otti, he noted, is setting new standards in leadership, accountability, and infrastructure development across Abia.
The administration, according to Ekeoma, is implementing policies aimed at creating jobs, rebuilding institutions, and attracting investment.
He added that Governor Otti’s leadership style is a breath of fresh air that threatens entrenched interests used to business-as-usual politics.
Ekeoma accused certain elements of being uncomfortable with the reforms and people-centered projects the Otti administration is executing.
He claimed that such elements are desperate to distract and destabilize the government through cheap propaganda.
Governor Otti, however, remains unmoved by the antics of political jobbers and remains fully committed to the Labour Party.
Ekeoma concluded that Otti’s loyalty to the Labour Party is unwavering and should not be doubted by anyone.
He emphasized that rumours will not deter the administration from its mission of building a new Abia State rooted in prosperity and equity.
Governor Otti, he said, is more interested in leaving lasting legacies than in playing petty political games.
The statement reassured the public that good governance, and not politics, will continue to drive every decision the governor makes.
