Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reversed its earlier decision to halt Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sales in Naira, announcing that petrol transactions in the local currency will continue without disruption.
The company confirmed the development on Saturday, citing the intervention of the Chairman of the Naira-for-Crude Transaction Committee.
“Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Transaction Committee Chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS sales in Naira commencing immediately,” the refinery said in its official statement.
Customers were advised to proceed with their orders in Naira for both self-collection and free delivery at designated locations across the country.
Diaspora Digital Media reported that the refinery had earlier suspended Naira-denominated petrol sales, with effect from Sunday, September 28, raising fears of a possible pump price hike.
That announcement sparked concerns about fuel supply and affordability across Nigeria.
In its latest update, however, Dangote Refinery urged Nigerians to disregard the suspension notice.
It assured that sales would continue seamlessly to stabilize supply and keep petrol affordable for consumers.
The move comes amid growing public pressure and concerns over fuel scarcity following directives by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
The union had warned of possible disruptions in gas supply to the refinery, a move lawmakers recently criticized.
The refinery’s quick reversal highlights the sensitivity of fuel supply issues in Nigeria, where petrol pricing and availability remain a major driver of economic hardship.
