JUST IN: Governor Mutfwang debunks explosion claims
Amidst claims of explosion
Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Plateau State Executive Governor, has denied reports of an improvised explosive device (IED) being installed at the former Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) location close to Terminus market in the Jos North local government area.
This was disclosed via X social media by the director of press and public affairs to the executive governor of Plateau state, Gyang Bere, on Tuesday.
The statement was titled: “Governor Mutfwang dismisses false alarm of explosives at Old Juth, near Terminus market”.
According to source, Governor Mutfwang revealed that the alert was a hoax, set off by a group of people who thought a pile of polythene bags would be dangerous.
The local population experienced a surge of anxiety and terror as a result of their report.
According to Governor Mutfwang, security forces, including the Plateau state police command’s anti-bomb team, moved quickly to the location and carried out a comprehensive cordon and search.
Following a thorough examination, no signs of an explosive device were reportedly discovered.
The governor advised all Plateau residents to be watchful and behave as responsible ambassadors.
He reassured the populace that his government is dedicated to maintaining long-term security throughout Plateau state and is making every effort to bring peace and stability back to the area.
Governor Mutfwang urged everyone to concentrate on helping the administration achieve its goals of long-term peace and development.
He urged locals, particularly those living close to Terminus market, to go about their everyday lives fearlessly and to notify security staff right away of any suspicious activity so that prompt action may be taken.
Explosion claims…
Earlier, today, Jos was alleged to be rocked by a huge explosion that sent shockwaves across the surrounding neighborhoods.
According to claims, the explosion happened close to the crowded Terminus market area at around 10:30 am.
The explosion injured a number of people as claimed.
Other sources speculate that there may have been fatalities.
Pandemonium, unrest and devastation was said to get hold of the state.
According to a report, an eyewitness stated: “I was nearby when I heard a loud bang”.
Gyang Buba, a clothes vendor confirmed the incident.
“I saw people running and screaming.
“It was terrifying”, added Buba.
Emergency personnel reportedly hurried to the area to offer aid.
This included the police, fire department, and ambulance teams.
A public comment regarding the incident has not yet been released by the Plateau State Police Command.
Alabo Alfred, the command’s spokesperson, had his phone off, thus attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
But according to security sources at the Jos police command headquarters, the occurrence was confirmed, and an inquiry was started.
“The area has been cordoned off as investigators begin to assess the situation.
“We are working to determine the cause of the explosion”, the source added.
He went on: “We urge calm and assure the public that we will do everything possible to ensure their safety”.
Reports disclosed that residents of Jos, which has seen sporadic violence and instability in recent years, are urging authorities to step up security measures in the area after the incident.
