The Labour Party Youth Wing has proposed an alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and groups supporting President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The proposal followed a virtual meeting on Friday involving the party’s National Youth Leader, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, five national zonal youth leaders and 32 state youth leaders.

In a statement signed by Edo State Labour Party Youth Leader, Ken Omusi, the youth leaders said they discussed the party’s political direction amid its internal crisis and concerns about youth participation in politics.

The group reportedly mandated Ahanotu to begin consultations with the APC, the Renewed Hope Movement, the City Boy Movement and Tinubu Support Groups on possible political alignment and collaboration.

The youth leaders cited concerns over what they described as inadequate recognition, engagement and support for young people during and after the 2023 general elections.

They also discussed the Tinubu administration’s policies on youth empowerment, economic reforms, infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, agriculture and workers’ welfare.

The statement said the participants expressed different views on the policies and their impact on the country.

The proposed alliance will be discussed further after consultations with the relevant groups, while the youth leaders also proposed a physical meeting in Abuja to review the outcome and determine their next steps.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Labour Party has remained divided, with different factions producing separate presidential candidates in recent primaries.

The party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, secured 6,101,533 votes and finished third, according to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission
