Just In: Military Chiefs Meet In Jos After Two Decades Over Renewed Killings
Nigeria’s top military chiefs, in what appears to be a first in two decades, will converge in Plateau State over recently renewed killings in the crisis prone zone, it has been learnt.
Nigeria’s service chiefs, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-General Taoreed Lagbaja; Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, and Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, are reported to be expected in Jos, the state capital of the North Central State, in what insiders say is meant to get a first hand report on situation.
Bakin Ladi, Bokkos, and other sleepy communities have been set up on by militias, massacring residents without warning and with no clear agenda.
The visit, according to observers, might well signal a shift in handling of conflict by federal government.
“This is the first time since the 1980’s that all the Service Chiefs are in Jos at once for a situation like this,” said Kangyang Pwajok, an activist keenly following the Plateau State conflict.
She made the disclosure through her social media handle while expressing optimism that federal government may have gotten around to finally getting a grip on the age long killings in the state.
“While we appreciate their gesture, We’re on our guard to hear what they’re proposing for the security of Plateau State.
“And we look forward to prompt and lasting solutions to restore peace back to the Home of Peace and Tourism,” she said.
Jos, much of plateau and its environs used to be hub of tourism attracting largely Europeans on account of its weather, scenery and unique culture of its aborigines.
