JUST IN: South-South APC adopts Tinubu as sole candidate for 2027

The South-South chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement came during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
APC leaders from the region also adopted four South-South governors as the party’s flagbearers for upcoming governorship elections.
The adopted governors are Bassey Edet Otu (Cross River), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), and Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom).
Otu also serves as the South-South APC Coordinator. Okpebholo was recently elected in the 2024 off-cycle Edo poll.
Oborevwori and Eno defected from the PDP to APC and now enjoy full endorsement for second terms under the new alliance.
The meeting was held at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and attended by key party figures and national executives.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the meeting, called the South-South the “economic heartbeat” of Nigeria.
“The South-South lays the golden egg. We must decide who shares it,” Akpabio told the gathering.
He declared Tinubu the zone’s unanimous choice and praised his reforms and ongoing infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar road.
A communique, read by APC Vice Chairman Victor Giadom, officially adopted Tinubu and the four governors for the 2027 ballot.
It also passed a vote of confidence in Akpabio for his leadership and in all APC federal appointees from the region.
The motion for adoption was moved by House Leader Julius Ihonvbere and seconded by Senator Adams Oshiomhole.
The meeting urged Rivers and Bayelsa governors to join the APC “for the sake of regional unity.”
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike was also praised for his “continued support” of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
