President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with Nigeria’s newly appointed Service Chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting, which took place on Monday afternoon, comes just weeks after the appointment of the new military heads. Though the agenda was not immediately disclosed, sources believe it is linked to ongoing efforts to restructure and fortify the country’s security framework.
Presidential aides have described the new appointments as part of Tinubu’s strategic plan to enhance professionalism and operational efficiency within Nigeria’s armed forces.
Among those in attendance are the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke; and the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas.
The meeting is expected to focus on tackling persistent security challenges, including banditry, terrorism, and separatist agitations across several regions of the country.
Tinubu’s administration has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to restoring peace and rebuilding public confidence in Nigeria’s defence system. The president had earlier hinted that his government would adopt a technology-driven approach to national security, prioritizing intelligence sharing, inter-agency cooperation, and modernization of equipment.
The new Service Chiefs were appointed to replace their predecessors as part of a wider military reform aimed at repositioning the armed forces for efficiency and accountability.
Although details of Monday’s deliberations remain undisclosed, the meeting signals Tinubu’s continued focus on security as a top national priority
