U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday, August 1, ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines near Russian waters.
He said the move followed what he described as “foolish and inflammatory” threats made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social account.
He said he considered Medvedev’s remarks dangerous and wanted to send a clear warning.
“Based on the highly provocative statements of the Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev… I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions,” Trump wrote.
The U.S. leader added that the submarines would act as a precaution, in case Medvedev’s threats turned into real action.
He did not specify the exact location of the submarines but hinted they were deployed close enough to respond swiftly if needed.
Trump warned that words can trigger serious consequences. He urged Russian leaders to tread carefully.
“Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences. I hope this will not be one of those instances,” he added.
This latest development adds fresh tension to already strained U.S.-Russia relations.
Medvedev, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, had reportedly issued sharp remarks earlier in the week.
Although details of Medvedev’s comments remain unclear, Trump’s reaction suggests the U.S. took them seriously.
So far, the Kremlin has not issued an official response to Trump’s statement.
However, analysts say the submarine move could heighten military alert levels in the region.
This action marks one of the most direct military warnings from Washington since Trump returned to office.
It also reflects growing concerns over unpredictable rhetoric from top Russian figures.
For now, global observers are watching closely to see if the situation escalates or if cooler heads prevail.
