JUST IN: US deploys more fighter jets to middle east as war intensifies

The United States is sending additional fighter aircraft to the Middle East amid rising conflict between Israel and Iran, officials confirmed.
Three senior U.S. officials said the deployment includes F-16s, F-22s, and F-35s—advanced jets capable of air superiority and missile interception.
Two of the officials described the move as “defensive,” aimed at protecting U.S. and allied forces from Iranian and proxy threats.
These aircraft have recently been used to intercept drones and projectiles launched by hostile actors in the region.
The Pentagon declined to comment publicly, though the buildup aligns with increased military posturing seen in recent days.
Reuters previously reported the U.S. had moved a large fleet of refueling tankers to Europe to support extended operations.
An aircraft carrier was also redirected to the Middle East, giving President Trump further military options in the growing crisis.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the moves, emphasizing the need to shield U.S. assets from possible retaliation by Iran.
A fourth defense official said warships could soon be moved into the Eastern Mediterranean, reinforcing U.S. ballistic missile defense.
The U.S. currently has 40,000 troops in the region, with layered defenses including fighter aircraft and naval missile-interceptor systems.
Israel began its largest-ever air offensive against Iran on Friday, citing intelligence Iran was nearing nuclear weapon capability.
Iran rejected the claim, insisting its nuclear program is peaceful and compliant with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Tehran continues to assert its right to enrich uranium for civilian energy use under international law.
As diplomatic options narrow, Washington is strengthening deterrence to prevent wider regional escalation and protect its strategic interests.
This is a developing story.
More details shortly.
