K1 Denies Unruly Conduct in Abuja Airport Incident

Nigerian Fuji music legend, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has denied claims of misconduct during a recent boarding incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, August 5, involved a misunderstanding while the singer waited to board a ValueJet flight VK201 to Lagos.

Reports surfaced on social media alleging that K1 attempted to board the plane with a liquid substance and acted disruptively.

However, the artiste’s camp has pushed back strongly against these claims.

K1’s Team Calls Reports “Exaggerated and Misleading”

On Thursday, K1’s media aide, Kunle Rasheed, issued a statement dismissing the allegations as exaggerated and misleading.

According to him, the situation escalated unnecessarily over a bottle of plain drinking water handed to the artiste while he sat in the lounge.

“At no point did K1 endanger lives or violate aviation safety protocols,” Rasheed stated.

“Claims that he blocked the aircraft or caused disruptions are completely false.”

He also explained that K1 attempted to clarify the contents of the bottle, but the issue still escalated.

Rasheed noted that the veteran performer, who frequently travels both within and outside Nigeria, strictly follows aviation rules.

Rasheed confirmed that airport security officials, along with senior representatives from the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), intervened to calm the situation.

He further revealed that ValueJet’s Chairman and Managing Director personally reached out, apologised, and even offered a private jet to fly K1 to Lagos.

Despite the gesture, K1 reportedly declined the offer graciously.

Rasheed urged the media to avoid sensationalism and allow the facts to speak for themselves.

 FAAN, NCAA Provide Conflicting Reports

However, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Obiageli Orah, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that preliminary findings showed K1 attempted to carry alcohol onboard, despite warnings.

She said the musician allegedly poured the liquid on an airline security officer before being escorted away by AVSEC’s crime unit for questioning.

Meanwhile, the NCAA also confirmed a separate safety breach involving the ValueJet pilot, who reportedly started takeoff procedures without the required clearance. Both the pilot and co-pilot have been suspended pending a full investigation.

ValueJet Responds

In a statement, ValueJet said it is cooperating fully with the authorities and has removed the crew from duty pending an internal investigation.

The K1 Abuja airport incident continues to raise questions, with conflicting accounts from the artiste’s team and aviation authorities. Investigations remain ongoing as stakeholders work to uncover the full facts
