Abuja, Nigeria — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu urged PANDEF leaders today to accelerate development efforts in the Niger Delta, emphasizing their critical role.
He delivered this message while meeting delegates at Abuja’s Presidential Villa Council Chambers, stressing collaborative action.
Commending Niger Delta leaders for past contributions, Tinubu yet stressed tighter partnerships with development agencies to boost regional progress.
He specifically praised Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), for his commendable performance.
“Community development is very close to my heart,” President Tinubu stated.
“The NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, is doing a great job and should be encouraged to do more. He is your son, and we are all proud of him.”
The President urged the leaders to adopt a more inclusive, selfless approach to addressing the socio-political and economic challenges facing the Niger Delta.
He reiterated the importance of unity and focus in salvaging the region’s future.
“Niger Delta is the goose that lays the golden egg,” Tinubu affirmed. “We must care for the goose; otherwise, we lose the golden egg.
I understand your concerns, particularly regarding Rivers State.
I have been engaged with this issue for some time and intervened to prevent further escalation.”
Highlighting his administration’s commitment to community development, President Tinubu underscored the significance of ongoing infrastructure projects in the region.
He pointed to the coastal road project as a key initiative that would unlock new economic opportunities for both the region and Nigeria as a whole. Additionally, he revealed plans to collaborate with international companies on port development across Niger Delta states.
King Alfred Diete-Spiff, Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass Kingdom and Co-Chairman of PANDEF’s Board of Trustees, expressed gratitude to the President for his dedication to improving the well-being of South-South communities.
He also commended Tinubu’s administration for appointing Niger Delta indigenous people to key positions.
“Your government has taken the bull by the horns, and we are sure you will succeed,” King Diete-Spiff said.
“We are here to give you our assurance and support. God bless Nigeria and your government.”
The meeting reinforced the administration’s resolve to prioritize projects and initiatives that directly benefit citizens while fostering economic growth in the Niger Delta region.
